Our Story

The Heart Behind Our Mission

Helping Heroes Foundation was born out an existing concept with the intention of expanding it and helping many first responder families. The founder and executive director Chris Davis started out in the fire service over 16 years ago and is passionate about supporting fellow firefighters facing some of the most challenging times in their lives. In 2022, Chris joined some of his fellow firefighters in a charity golf tournament where one their own was a beneficiary. A member at his fire department, Cam, was diagnosed with colon cancer. The doctors believed it was caught early and that with the right treatments they expected a good outcome.

While undergoing chemo treatments, Cam was nominated for and won a free trip for his family. The purpose of the trip was for Cam and his family to get away from the constant regiment of these treatments, the stress, and the burden placed on the family. This could not have happened to a better guy. A man that stayed positive with his family by his side and a strong faith, Cam went through this dark time with grace and positivity. Witnessing the burden and stress that Cam and his family endured along with experiencing the impact of Cam's grace and the gracious gift Cam received was impactful. The impact planted a seed in Chris that grew to the formation of Helping Heroes Foundation. Having some experience with nonprofits, organizing events, and fundraising, Chris knew what needed to happen. In 2024, Chris and Cam formed Helping Heroes Foundation.

The mission of Helping Heroes Foundation is to restore strength and renew hope through support for first responder families during hardship and tragedy. Our vision is to give these families hope and peace or just a break, even if for a short moment. Our purpose will be to donate trips for first responder families, provide them with guided hunting and fishing trips, and if possible, assist with medical expenses. We have secured a sweepstakes that will generate a substantial amount of revenue that will be the core fundraising. We will supplement that with large events such as charity sporting events, contests and auctions. While our initial focus will be Texas we look to help first responders across the country.

Chris Davis founded and launched the Sam's Search nonprofit over 17 years ago to support families managing type 1 diabetes. Founded in honor of Chris and Krystal's son, Sam, who was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes when he was 4 years old. The organization quickly gained overwhelming support and it is through that support and an annual tournament that Sam's Search assists type 1 families with insulin pumps, continual glucose monitors (CGM) scholarships and even a few service dogs along the way. Sam's Search is now partnered with Cook Children's in Prosper to support families diagnosed with type 1. Sam went to the fire academy in early 2023 and is now a career firefighter/paramedic.

When Heroes Need Support

Firefighters risk their health and safety to protect others. When illness or injury strikes, the physical, emotional, and financial challenges can affect entire families. We want to help ease those burdens so they can focus on healing and recovery.
